Optional Entertainment

We are pleased to offer the following options as ways to experience San Antonio. Options such as these present great opportunities to get to know your NCTA colleagues in an informal setting. In addition to these planned activities, remember that our hotel is located in the heart of San Antonio's famed Riverwalk. There will be dinner groups forming at the conference, and you are welcome to explore downtown on your own (or farther afield if you have transportation) or with other conference attendees.

Both of our planned Entertainment Options showcase popular attractions in downtown San Antonio and are popular with visitors to our city.

Option # 1: Thursday Evening, August 6, 2009

Dinner Cruise on the San Antonio River

Dinner Cruise

Cost: $65.00 (includes barge rental fee, dinner, tips, etc.)

Menu: TX Caesar Salad, Chicken Strudel, Wild Rice, Seasonal Vegetable, Lemon Meringue Pie

Seating is limited for this event, so sign up early.

Board the river barge at the Hyatt and cruise the scenic and historic San Antonio River while you enjoy a great dinner with your colleagues. The barge moves pretty slowly, so don't worry about seasickness! While you are eating, the barge captain will regale you with tales of San Antonio's past as you go by the very places where the past happened. The cruise takes about 2.5 hours.

Option # 2: Friday Evening, August 7, 2009

Dinner Trip to El Mercado (Market Square)

La Margarita

Cost: $35.00 (includes travel on an air-conditioned bus, dinner, tips, etc.)

Menu: La Margarita's famous "sizzling fajitas" (chicken and beef), rice, charro beans, guacamole, pico de gallo, sour cream, cheese, flour tortillas, and Pecan Praline Crepes for dessert.

Seating is limited for this event, so sign up early.

El Mercado (also known as Market Square) is a market very much like those in Mexico: lots of little shops selling everything from leather goods to pottery to piñatas. Most of the market is enclosed and air-conditioned. We will start our visit with dinner at La Margarita Restaurant where "sizzling fajitas" originated. After dinner, we will have about an hour to explore the market before boarding the bus to return to the Hyatt. (NOTE: El Mercado is located about 10-12 blocks from the hotel, so it is within walking distance; however, August is usually very hot and humid, so we have arranged transportation.) Allow about 3 hours for this event.
